Noida, June 12, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, as pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity intensifies across the region. Residents should expect thunderstorms, lightning, dust storms, and gusty winds with speeds reaching up to 80 kmph today. The weather department has also warned of isolated hailstorm activity in parts of western Uttar Pradesh.
According to the latest IMD city forecast, Noida will see partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers throughout June 12 and 13. Temperatures are expected to remain between 25°C and 35°C — a notable drop of 6 to 7 degrees Celsius from maximum temperatures recorded earlier this week, offering temporary relief from the prolonged summer heat.
The current thunderstorm activity is part of an active pre-monsoon weather pattern. The Southwest Monsoon officially made landfall over Kerala on June 4, 2026 — three days later than its normal arrival date — and has since advanced steadily northward, entering West Bengal on June 9. For Noida and the wider Delhi-NCR region, the monsoon is expected to arrive between June 25 and June 30. Until then, pre-monsoon thunderstorms are likely to continue bringing periodic relief.
Thundersqualls with wind gusts of up to 80 kmph hit parts of Noida and Ghaziabad on the night of June 11, causing power outages in several residential sectors, uprooting trees, and leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Local authorities are monitoring affected areas and working to restore electricity and clear roads where required.
The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during active thunderstorms, avoid standing under trees or near electric poles, and secure loose items on terraces and balconies. Motorists are urged to drive carefully given reduced visibility during heavy rain, dust storms, or hail.
“Strong winds, lightning, and sudden heavy showers can cause real disruption. Keep an eye on evening skies and secure anything loose on terraces or balconies.”
