Noida/Greater Noida, 12 June 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Noida, Greater Noida, and the entire Delhi-NCR region today, forecasting severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hailstorms and gusty winds of 70-100 km/h through the day.
The warning comes after parts of Greater Noida including the Alpha Commercial Market area already experienced sudden strong winds, heavy rain and hailstorms late Wednesday night (11 June 2026), bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and relief from days of intense heat.
IMD Orange Alert: What It Means for Noida Today (12 June 2026)
An Orange Alert signals severe weather that can disrupt daily life. For today, IMD has specifically forecast:
- Thunderstorms with lightning across Noida, Greater Noida, Dadri, Jewar and surrounding NCR areas
- Moderate to heavy rainfall during afternoon and evening hours
- Hailstorm in isolated pockets of the region
- Gusty winds of 70-90 km/h, with isolated gusts touching 100 km/h
- Risk of fallen trees, waterlogging, traffic disruption and power outages
Pre-Monsoon System Strengthening
According to Skymet Weather VP Mahesh Palawat, the current storm activity is being driven by a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan. Speaking on 11 June 2026, Palawat said that from June 11 onward, this pre-monsoon system will strengthen further across Delhi-NCR and North India, and temperatures are expected to fall below 40 degrees Celsius.
Southwest Monsoon 2026: Expected Arrival in Noida-Delhi NCR
The southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala earlier this week and is advancing northward. IMD has forecast that the monsoon is likely to reach Delhi and the NCR between June 25 and June 30, 2026. Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram are all expected to receive monsoon rains around the same time.
